Especially throughout the warm-weather months of spring and summer season, West Nile virus has been a cause of major worry through out the world. Through mosquitoes that feed on these birds they easily get inside human, dogs, cats, bats, horses, chipmunks, chunks, squirrels and domestic rabbits. These viruses belong to the family of Flaviviridae and it mostly infects the birds. They may also get transmitted through blood transfusions, organ transplants, breast feeding and during pregnancy from mother to child. It is found that most of the people who are infected with these viruses do not show any symptoms. But studies have shown that risk of getting infected through such ways is less common, the major route still being mosquito bites. These symptoms may be lasting for 3 to 14 days after getting infected with the virus. But there is a chance of mild symptoms like fever, head ache, skin rashes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, back pain and muscle pain.

There is a chance of severe illness with high fever above 102degree, severe head ache, stiff neck, disorientation, muscle jerks, seizures, coma, and partial paralysis along with occasional chances for a death. Major carrier being the infected mosquitoes, the people who spent much time outdoors without any protection from mosquito repellent are at high risk for getting infected with West Nile virus. Moreover these symptoms may last for several weeks. Harsh symptoms happen owing to inflammation of the tissue that surrounds the brain and spinal cord leading to a condition called encephalitis. Severe symptoms can arise for people above age of 50 and those who have a weakened immune system. Furthermore people who already have some other health problem are also at risk. People who are in the virus reported region are also easily vulnerable to the infection.

Reports say that less than 1% of the people who are infected have stern symptoms. The only way to protect you from West Nile virus is preventing yourself from being bitten by an infected mosquito by reducing the number of mosquitoes around your surroundings or by protecting yourself with a mosquito repellant. Staying indoors particularly during the dawn, dusk and early evening hours will do well. There are no vaccines discovered till now and no exact treatment for this infection. The people with mild symptoms can get better within a few days with no any treatment, but those with severe symptoms must be hospitalized. Emptying the standing water in the flower pots, old tires etc are highly essential, as these are the breeding places for the mosquitoes.

A healthier alternative in this case would be the product from Skin Armour namely Skin Armour deep woods outdoor soap which can make you less attractive to the mosquitoes that too without any side effects. Using a successful mosquito repellent mainly the herbal ones with no side effects are highly essential.
